I would like to share this article initiated by michaeldotcom from namepros regarding latest trends in .TV domain extension.

--- Start here ---

Big TV networks are getting more and more enthusiastic about the .tv extension. They're developing and promoting more .tv sites than ever before.

We all know that the value of .tv domains in the future really depends on .tv awareness. The more average Internet users will be aware and used to going to .tv sites, the more type-in traffic .tv domains will get and the more valuable they will become.

Because of their massive advertising budgets and because of the amount of time average people spend in front of TV everyday, it will be key to watch how much those big TV networks invest in .tv in the future and how many .tv sites they will develop and promote.

I've tried to start a list of some of the .tv sites that have been developed and promoted by big TV networks, both in the US and the UK.

If you notice other .tv sites developed and promoted by big TV networks now and in the future, it would be great if you could add them to this thread. They could be either TV channels or specific TV shows from these big networks.

Why you need to register your own .TV domain name?

Sponsor: NeedName.com register your .TV domain name.

While TV’s place as the preeminent channel for Americans to watch video content remains safe for now, results from recent research conducted by Ipsos MediaCT shows that the PC is slowly encroaching on the TV’s dominance, capturing an increasing amount of screen time among those who download or stream video online.

Within this article, you will read this quote "shows that the percentage of video consumed on a TV among video downloaders and streamers declined from 75% in February 2007 to 70% in February 2008 – a small, yet significant drop in overall ‘share of screen time’ with the growing contingent of digital video users."

Is the future of TV on the Web?

. Thursday, May 1, 2008

(CNN) -- The future of television is changing before our eyes, as media giants scramble to stake their claims in the wilderness of Internet video.

Major studios, including Fox, NBC Universal, and Warner Bros. are moving quickly to establish Web sites for their premium video titles, in hopes of grabbing a growing audience of online video viewers.

It's an exciting time for couch potatoes and mouse potatoes alike, because nobody knows exactly how big audiences will consume video entertainment in the not-too-distant future -- whether it's on a mobile device, a laptop, a wall-mounted screen or something that hasn't been invented yet.

"Historically, the winners are the ones who embrace change," said Jason Kilar, CEO of Hulu.com, which was launched March 12 by the owners of Fox and NBC Universal.

GEO domains .TV the next money maker.

I would like to share Steve's (simplygeo.com) thought about the .TV domain name as potential money maker.

.TV owners are in a great position as the internet continues to manifest. Patience is a very hard virtue to embrace. My advice to all who invest in domains is to stay the course and embrace your beliefs without allowing individuals to manipulate them. Listen and learn from individuals, but do not allow yourself to abandon your “gut feeling” or what you believe in, unless it is just plain foolish. In the end, those who stay the course will reap the biggest rewards.

Investing in .TV domain name (Part2/2)

This is the 2nd part of Investing in .TV Domain Name article. If you haven't read the 1st part yet, I highly recommend that you read it first so you can see the potential value of .TV domain extension.

I will introduce some tools that you can use for your .TV domain names if you don't have the time to develop it. The solution I will discuss here is just another way to maximize the revenue of your .TV portfolio.

Use a FREE service to make money for your .TV portfolio.

Tool #1 Magnify.net. The service is FREE and easy to customize. We have some GEO .TV domain names that are using Magnify.net to share, upload and watch video/photos. For some live .TV websites, see examples below:

  • http://www.belgium.tv/ - this automatically search the internet using the keyword(s) that I've assigned during setup. You can schedule the search every 3 days or 5 days or 7 days.
  • http://www.jersey.tv/ - similar approach with Belgium.TV but this search more cities in New Jersey and New York. So the content is huge.
  • http://www.fairfax.tv/ - is basically concentrated in Fairfax, Virginia to support our local community to upload and watch local video found in many video hosting services.

Not only for GEO .TV domain names, here are some examples that I used Magnify.net service:

To get your own Video Social Networking tool, go check it out http://www.magnify.net/.

Tool #2 http://www.mogulus.com/. This is my favorite tool for my .TV domain. I currently use this for http://www.station.tv/ to broadcast my own live music.

Did I mention that these services are free to use? If I havent, yes they are free to use.

Tool #3 http://www.justin.tv/. Yes this is broadcasting service now, check out the how to broadcasting guide to start your own.

Tool #4 Mobile Video services such as kyte.tv, qik.com and flixwagon.com

Tool #5 WorldTV.com provide free online video tool. For example, visit http://www.worldtv.com/usa to watch video online.

Tool #6 TravelGuide.TV provide free video that you can embed to your existing website. The video is done by professional videographer and the voice over is so sexy. Thanks to shocko at namepros for introducing this service. See this in action, visit www.FairfaxCity.com website or www.Cityware.com Travel Resource.

HOW YOU CAN MAKE MONEY USING THESE TOOLS?

I can use my adsense code to show ads relevant to my video website. For Magnify.net, this is a shared profit ads though you can use other markerting approach to maximize your revenue. For example in http://www.michigan.tv/ website, I've used adsense and linkshare affiliate to provide ads around the video. I can also accept direct ad space from local customers, we can put this to the header, footer, side and middle area of the website.

Using Mogulus tool is very enjoying, easy to deploy and it's a complete studio solution. I can mix music video (as shown in http://www.station.tv/) of my own, using Youtube search results or allow other producer to broadcast with our http://www.station.tv/ broadcast. Sounds good ha! Well, take a peek at http://www.station.tv/ and enjoy our music. If you would like to hear other music, just drop as a note.

Added to adsense, I can use the ticker ad to show advertisement accepting monthly recurring payment to show their website to my avid listener. This is through Internet no boundaries, wide audiences.

Well, that's for now. I hope this help you follow your dream in media, entertainment or other related broadcasting business.

This trend will help you find out the most active .TLD domain name extension and history. http://www.google.com/trends?q=.tv%2C.biz%2C.name%2C.cc%2C.mobi

Investing in .TV domain name (Part1/2)

If you missed the .COM domain name business in the mid 1995's or early 2000's, well it's not too late to join this 2 billion dollar industry as reported in Fox News (The Domain Name Business is Real). Though registering a good .COM or .NET .ORG domain name extension is now a challenge. Most terms, words, keywords or street language in Webster Dictionary are all gone, probably own by individuals or in domain name business.

Let me show you how you can join this business with starting $8 to $100 dollar capital.

I worked in Information Technology field as Manager/Consultant by day and domainer by night. So when I try to register a domain name, it something to do with Information Technology, Networking, Security, Helpdesk Operations and other IT related keywords. This is where I start building my own portfolio, from 1 domain name in 1999 to approximately 1300 domain names this year; and hoping to own 10,000+ domain name before ending year 2015. For some readers, my forecast of owning 10,000+ domain names by 2015 is impossible to achieve because of growing competitions from fellow domainer, company, business bully (that use reverse hijacking to claim a domain name) but some will agree that it is possible to accomplish this task.

HOW TO?

When I started in Domain Name business, I figured that I'm already one step behind so I decided to invest in other extension such .CN .IN and .TV. Why these domain extension you ask? Well, simply .IN for india and .CN for chinese, their population counts as the most prospected Internet users in years to come. And .TV is a generic extension that everybody knows, great opportunity to build your own business in media or entertainment sector. For this article, I will show .TV statistic that was sold this year (2007) as reported in different forum e.g. NP, DNF and DS.

Reminder: If the assumed value is incorrect, please let me know so I can correct it or post your comment below. And just like other blogger/webmaster, our disclamer that this article is only use to give you our opinion based on input from different forums members. Please use this article at your own risk. LOL.

The graph deficted below is based on reported sales in Namepros, DNF and Domain State forums.
