Great to know that Google is now providing free ad manager just like having your own hosted open source ad manager (phpad). The service is still in beta and currently a free service to use. I'm hoping that they will offer this service free of charge after the beta stage. Here's a few words from Google Ad Manager.

====

Google Ad Manager is a hosted ad management solution that can help you sell, schedule, deliver, and measure all of your directly-sold and network-based inventory.

  • Simple, intuitive user interface: Decrease training time and trafficking steps with simplified tagging and inventory management.

  • Google serving speed and reliability: Ensure quicker ad delivery and fewer reporting discrepancies.

  • Significant cost savings! Pay no I.T. infrastructure, maintenance, or bandwidth costs.

I received this email today from Google Adsense regarding retiring Adsense Referrals. It's time to update your website if you are using the service before last week of August 2008.

Here's the full email message:
--- Start of Email ---
Thank you for participating in the AdSense Referrals program. We’re writing to let you know that we will be retiring the AdSenseReferrals program during the last week of August. We appreciateyour patience during this transition and here are some alternativeoptions to consider:

* Google Affiliate Network: As part of the integration ofDoubleClick, the DoubleClick Performics Affiliate Network will nowoperate as the Google Affiliate Network for advertisers targetingusers located in the United States. Similar to the AdSenseReferrals program, the Google Affiliate Network enables publishersto apply for advertiser programs and get paid based onadvertiser-defined actions instead of clicks or impressions. Forfurther details, please visit:www.google.com/ads/affiliatenetwork.

* AdSense for content ads: If you have less than three AdSensefor content ad units on a page, you may wish to replace thereferral ad units with standard AFC ad units.

If you currently use referral ads, either to promote Googleproducts or offerings from AdWords advertisers, AdSense Referralscode will no longer display ads beginning the last week of August. We encourage you to take the following steps before the product isretired:

* Remove the referral code from your site(s): Please take amoment to remove all referral code from your sites before the lastweek of August, so you can continue to effectively monetize yourad space. * Run and save all referrals reports on your desktop: Createand save all reports related to the referrals program on yourdesktop, so you continue to have access to your valuable campaigninformation

Why is this happening?
We're constantly looking for ways to improve AdSense by developingand supporting features which drive the best monetization resultsfor our publishers. Sometimes, this requires retiring existingfeatures so we can focus our efforts on the ones that will be mosteffective in the long term. For this reason, we will be retiringthe AdSense Referrals program. If you have any additionalquestions, please visit our Help Center:http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/topic.py?topic=14882

Sincerely.
The Google AdSense Team

Another Yahoo and Google news

According to Michael Arrington of Founder and Editor of TechCrunch, "Google taking Yahoo out of the game long term". This is why I don't like this idea, instead let Microsoft be part of Yahoo Search to combine the no.2 and no.3 search company to compete with Google to avoid monopoly in search engine business.

Hey Microsoft, How ’bout We Do That First Deal You Offered?

The devil is in the details, and the details of the Yahoo-Google search advertising deal reveal the desperate, possibly neurotic state of Yahoo these days. Quite simply, it looks to me like Yahoo is effectively paying Google off to step in and (1) keep Jerry Yang, Sue Decker and the current board of directors in power, and (2) avoid a desperation deal with Microsoft for as long as possible, or longer. It’s not even clear to me that Google wants this deal, based on the terms. It almost looks like they’re just doing Yahoo a favor, and trying to keep them out of Microsoft’s hands.

Yahoo! will change the way you monetize your website. Instead of plogging this new advertising management platform from Yahoo! please watch the video preview of AMP!

Here's the link: http://advertising.yahoo.com/amp/

I'm just hoping that they introduce this service to the world not just North America. Hopefully the added "geographic" targetted advertising will do the job.

Let's wait for Q3 2008 launch of AMP! from Yahoo!
