Whaddya know how to install PHPMotion script?

. Thursday, September 25, 2008
0 comments

Are you having issue installing the PHPMotion version 2.0? Here's a simple guide to help you resolve this issue.

Web Server Background:

  • Server is running Linux Apache environment
  • PHP 5.2.x version

Installation of PHPMotion version 2.0

  • Identify your existing web server environment.
  • Create a php.info file to your webserver with this code " "
  • With the information from phpinfo, you will be able to identify the right version to download e.g. 4.o or 5.x php released.
  • Download the script (www.phpmotion.com), go to download section
  • Unzip the file to your local folder.
  • Upload these files and folders to your webserver, in root directory.
  • CHMOD all the following files and directories to 777 the following folders
    /setup
    /pictures
    /classes
    /temp
    /logs
    /addons
    /uploads
    /uploads/avi
    /uploads/thumbs
    /uploads/audio
    /uploads/audio/temp
    /uploads/pictures
  • CHMOD all the following files and directories to 755
    /cgi-bin/all files in there
    /cgi-bin/audio/all files in there
  • Start the installation wizard by going to http://www.king.net/setup (replace king.net with your real domain name)
  • Follow and provide the information needed e.g. MySQL database username and password, etc.

When I first check my installation for www.king.net, I've got this error:

Warning: dl() [function.dl]: Temporary module name should contain only filename in /home/xxx/public_html/classes/config.php on line 2PHP script /home/xxx/public_html/classes/config.php is protected by phpSHIELD and requires the phpSHIELD loader phpshield.5.2.lin. The phpSHIELD loader has not been installed, or is not installed correctly. Please visit the phpSHIELD php encoder site to download required loader.

To resolve the phpSHIELD error, check your php extension_dir. You can find this information through your www.king.net/info.php, see above what specific code to put to info.php file.

Ex. extension_dir = /usr/local/lib/php/extensions/ ;

You will then need to copy 1 file from your ftp folder into this "extension library". The file to copy is located in the "phpshield" folder and its named phpshield.5.2.lin.

Example of how to copy this file. (This is done via ssh as root user)

cp -a /your_local/folder/phpshield/phpshield.5.2.lin /usr/local/lib/php/extensions

where; /usr/local/lib/php/extensions is the location of your extension_dir

Now, visit www.king.net and you will be able to see the default install of PHPMotion version 2.0. Please note replace www.king.net with your actual domain name.

I hope this help.

The Billion-Dollar Domain Babies

. Friday, July 11, 2008

The latest ICANN plan to allow the global populace to assemble an entire domain name like www.yourname.yourname as their free-choice is a revolutionary and timely decision. This now open doors to cyber-brands like my.ibm, hotel.toronto, it.jobs, play.poker, fly.usa or go.telus and applicants will submit a non-refundable fee of $100-500K USD for each name idea and the businesses are already jumping to get started.

A new study estimates that this new registration process would create $33 Billion in fees in the first three years. The prime beneficiaries will be ICANN, which operates as a not-for-profit organization, but they still would have to deliver a highly structured, high speed service and meet global needs Other big recipients will be the worldwide domain registrars and highly specialized experts and lawyers while the cascading revenues will go to IT and web support organizations. The public at large will become the real beneficiaries as a billion new users will come online, millions of new interactive gateways will open and thousands of new global brands will emerge. This will make a global impact and bring a new face to the global E-commerce. The study also points out how in countries around the world, new national clubs of overnight billion-dollar domain name owners will emerge, all fueling the new global race.

I received this email today from Google Adsense regarding retiring Adsense Referrals. It's time to update your website if you are using the service before last week of August 2008.

Here's the full email message:
--- Start of Email ---
Thank you for participating in the AdSense Referrals program. We’re writing to let you know that we will be retiring the AdSenseReferrals program during the last week of August. We appreciateyour patience during this transition and here are some alternativeoptions to consider:

* Google Affiliate Network: As part of the integration ofDoubleClick, the DoubleClick Performics Affiliate Network will nowoperate as the Google Affiliate Network for advertisers targetingusers located in the United States. Similar to the AdSenseReferrals program, the Google Affiliate Network enables publishersto apply for advertiser programs and get paid based onadvertiser-defined actions instead of clicks or impressions. Forfurther details, please visit:www.google.com/ads/affiliatenetwork.

* AdSense for content ads: If you have less than three AdSensefor content ad units on a page, you may wish to replace thereferral ad units with standard AFC ad units.

If you currently use referral ads, either to promote Googleproducts or offerings from AdWords advertisers, AdSense Referralscode will no longer display ads beginning the last week of August. We encourage you to take the following steps before the product isretired:

* Remove the referral code from your site(s): Please take amoment to remove all referral code from your sites before the lastweek of August, so you can continue to effectively monetize yourad space. * Run and save all referrals reports on your desktop: Createand save all reports related to the referrals program on yourdesktop, so you continue to have access to your valuable campaigninformation

Why is this happening?
We're constantly looking for ways to improve AdSense by developingand supporting features which drive the best monetization resultsfor our publishers. Sometimes, this requires retiring existingfeatures so we can focus our efforts on the ones that will be mosteffective in the long term. For this reason, we will be retiringthe AdSense Referrals program. If you have any additionalquestions, please visit our Help Center:http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/topic.py?topic=14882

Sincerely.
The Google AdSense Team

ICANN to vote on new Internet domain names

. Monday, June 23, 2008
0 comments

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers is getting ready to vote later this week to open up the Internet naming convention to allow more options.

On Thursday at its meeting in Paris, ICANN, the not-for-profit organization charged with overseeing the Internet's naming scheme, will vote on a proposal that would allow companies to purchase new generic top-level domains ending in almost anything they want. So instead of being limited to .com, .org or .co.uk as the last letters of their Web addresses, companies or organizations could add their company name to the end of their URL. For example, eBay could become .ebay or Intel could be .intel. Even cities could name their Web sites .newyork or .berlin.

But the new names, which could be ready in 2009, won't come cheap. As a result, it's unlikely that individuals will be able to take advantage of the new naming conventions to create more personalized Web sites. The exact price to register these new names isn't yet known, but some experts predict it could cost about $50,000 to register a new domain name.

The popularity of .TV domain extension is going up up up!

This is a follow up of my previous post about Big TV Networks are enthusiastic about .TV. The big companies prefer to use .TV to expand their online media brand. It is simply make sense to use .TV when advertising on local television network.

So I'm curious to see the latest trends of other domain extension comparing to .TV. I used Google Trends to produce this graph, click the image to see more detail of trend history.
I'm not surprise with this results, .TV continously gaining populary year after year. This graph speak for itself.
It's not too late to invest in .TV domain name extension. There are still some quality and premium domain names available to register. Visit NeedName.com website to search your .TV domain name.

Big TV networks are enthusiastic about .tv

I would like to share this article initiated by michaeldotcom from namepros regarding latest trends in .TV domain extension.

--- Start here ---

Big TV networks are getting more and more enthusiastic about the .tv extension. They're developing and promoting more .tv sites than ever before.

We all know that the value of .tv domains in the future really depends on .tv awareness. The more average Internet users will be aware and used to going to .tv sites, the more type-in traffic .tv domains will get and the more valuable they will become.

Because of their massive advertising budgets and because of the amount of time average people spend in front of TV everyday, it will be key to watch how much those big TV networks invest in .tv in the future and how many .tv sites they will develop and promote.

I've tried to start a list of some of the .tv sites that have been developed and promoted by big TV networks, both in the US and the UK.

If you notice other .tv sites developed and promoted by big TV networks now and in the future, it would be great if you could add them to this thread. They could be either TV channels or specific TV shows from these big networks.

Developing a website for business!

. Sunday, May 4, 2008

Developing a website is a challenge for everyone, some don't have knowledge to start, some don't have the money, some don't have the time, etc. Which one are you?

I personally having a time management issue to start a project. I believe 24 hours is not enough for me. I'm asking God to make it 48 hours. Just kidding.

Seriously, I plan to develop a domain to a full website at least 1 web project a week. So far, I'm behind 1-2 weeks for every project. The last project is www.Chicago-City.com and www.FairfaxCity.com, the design and content is 80-90% complete. I need to bring up the advertising space so the visitors will know that we are accepting ad space. I have the graphics for ad space ready, so integrating the auto paypal payment is next. I hope to can complete this task in a week.

I'm also building my development team but very slow in process. So I guess I will be another months of managing my time in a more productive way. Hey what about my Marketing Team, I guess this is next!

Buy it now or your best offer?

We all think our online properties (domain names and/or website) worth a few hundred, or thousand, or maybe a million hard earn cash. I guess some of you will agree with me and some don't, who really care? We just want to make money, that's a primary goal. Though we have to make a simple baseline to follow so we can meet that goal.

The question is "How do you negotiate a deal without losing your potential customer?".
This is based on my previous transactions as a buyer or a seller.

I'm always open to offer. I hate putting bin price or fixed price, this will push the "potential" buyer away. I let the buyer set the price how much they can afford to purchase the domain. It's the buyer who really knows what his/her budget anyway. If the offer is close enough, we seal the deal right away. Then move on to the next.

Not all domains fall to "best offer" negotiation. A good example is GEO online properties (domain name), they don't get a lot of traffic if not develop. This is similar to some premium keywords found in the Internet. The selling negotiation and pricing is different.

I hope I was able to provide you some basic tips on how you close a deal.

Best regards.

October 2008 Registry Fee

.

Another domain registration increase folks, email I received from Tucows newsletter today.

-----
Verisign, the registry operator for .com and .net domain names, recently announced that beginning on October 1, 2008, the registry fee for .com and .net domain names will increase. The registry fee for .com domain names will rise from $6.42 to $6.86 and the registry fee for .net domain names will increase from $4.60 to $4.98. Please note, this price increase comes from the registry and not from Tucows (or your registrar). The $0.20 ICANN fee and the Tucows Management Fee remain unchanged.

Because the current contract between ICANN and the various domainregistries allows registries to increase their prices a few more timeswithin the upcoming years, you should expect to see more domain nameprice increases in the future.

To avoid the October price increase, consider renewing your domain names now and encouraging your customers to do the same. Multi-year renewals and new registrations that take place before the price increase takes effect will be billed at the current per domain, per year rate regardless of the renewal or registration term. We encourageyou to take advantage of this potential saving.

Thank you for your continued support of Tucows.
------

Based on this email, I guess Enom will send a similar announcement.

Embrace yourself, PPC is getting worst in revenue results, Google and Yahoo not accepting domain parked advertising, and continous increase of domain registration fees. Now you have to get the domain name that you plan to develop or maintain the one that brings $ to your pocket.

I see more domains drops in months ahead.

Now the owner of Pizza.net tried to cash in with the popularity of "Hot" pizza.com sale. So it was listed in TDNAM.com and the winning bid at US$1,150,000.00. If the bid is confirm, the pizza.net will be the highest sale for .net domain extension as of year 2008.

The most expensive recorded .net sales are SEX.NET for US$454,500 in a 2006 Traffic Auction and PORN.NET for US$400,000 just this year.
